The Iranian Football Federation has officially called on FIFA to expel Israel from the international football body.
Federation President Mehdi Taj announced on Tuesday that a letter had been sent to FIFA demanding the removal of what he described as the “usurping Zionist entity” from world football, according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.
“We wrote to FIFA that Israel should be shown a red card in football,” Taj said.
He added, “The Zionists have attacked the Football Federation and the training camp of our national team. Our referee and player were martyred. They must be expelled from FIFA.”
Taj noted that the global football community is increasingly recognizing the situation. “I hope FIFA pays attention to Israel’s crimes,” he said.
