Nuku’alofa - Saba:
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale struck the Tonga Islands located in the South Pacific Ocean today, Wednesday, with no reports so far of human or material damage resulting from the earthquake.
The United States Geological Survey clarified that the earthquake occurred 539 kilometers from the "Homa" area, at a depth of 535 kilometers.
It is noteworthy that Tonga is an archipelago consisting of 176 scattered islands in the South Pacific Ocean, of which only 52 are inhabited, located northwest of New Zealand and Australia.
Tonga lies on the “Ring of Fire,” a vast area of intense tectonic activity.
