Japan's Nikkei index retreated on Monday, reversing early gains as investors booked profits after a strong rally and shifted their focus to anticipated corporate earnings.
The Nikkei index fell 0.8 percent to 41,115.60 points, after rising 0.2 percent earlier in the session.
Conversely, the broader Topix index fell 0.45 percent to 2,938.55 points.
The Nikkei had hit a one-year high last week after Japan and the United States reached an agreement to roll back the massive tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on Japanese goods.
Semiconductor stocks led the declines, with Advantest falling 7.66 percent, weighing heavily on the index. Screen Holdings shares fell 7.24 percent after the chipmaking equipment manufacturer reported a 12.2 percent decline in quarterly operating profit.
The banking sector fell 1.78 percent, the worst performer among the 33 subsectors on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Bucking the trend, Fanuc shares jumped 5.6 percent, becoming the top gainer on the Nikkei index, after the robotics manufacturer reported a nearly 30 percent increase in quarterly operating profit.
