The third Russia-Africa Conference, jointly organized by the Valdai Discussion Club and the South African Institute of International Affairs, kicked off today in Pretoria under the theme “Realpolitik in a Divided World: Rethinking Russia–South Africa Relations in Global and African Contexts.”

The one-day event brings together leading researchers, diplomats, and policy experts from both regions to explore global geopolitical shifts, bilateral ties, and Russia’s evolving role in Africa.

Discussions are especially timely as South Africa chairs the G20 in 2025 and Russia leads BRICS in 2024
