Euro-Mediterranean HR Monitor: Al-Jarjawi School Massacre in Gaza repeated, deliberate Zionist policy

Euro-Mediterranean HR Monitor: Al-Jarjawi School Massacre in Gaza repeated, deliberate Zionist policy

Geneva – Saba:

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor said on Monday that Israeli enemy forces continue to commit horrific massacres by bombing shelters, destroying the remaining buildings, and imposing unsustainable living conditions. The latest attack targeted a school housing displaced persons in al-Daraj neighborhood in central Gaza City.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor added in a statement that Israeli aircraft launched three strikes on Fahmi al-Jarjawi School in al-Daraj neighborhood, which is used as a shelter for hundreds of displaced persons from the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City. This led to massive fires breaking out in classrooms, trapping families inside.

The monitor noted that these strikes resulted in the deaths of 31 people, including 18 children and six women, most of whom were completely charred. A number of people were injured and missing.

In a statement to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor team, Mohammed al-Masry, a survivor of the attack, said: "At around 1:00 a.m., Israeli warplanes bombed the school with at least three destructive and incendiary bombs. Fires immediately engulfed the classrooms on the first floor, and the displaced were trapped inside after the doors were closed due to the bombing."

Al-Masry added: "My relatives were inside the classroom screaming for help, and I couldn't do anything. When the Civil Defense arrived, there were charred bodies and body parts everywhere. We've been collecting body parts since dawn, and there are still people under the rubble."

Alaa Odeh, a displaced person who was injured during the attack, said, "The school was very crowded with displaced people, especially children and widows, especially after the displacement of residents of northern Gaza and Shuja'iyya. We were following the news of the negotiations at night, and suddenly, without any warning, the ground floor was bombed and burned completely. I suddenly found myself under the rubble, with fires raging around me, and people screaming above me."

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor emphasized that targeting schools housing displaced people, especially women and children, is not an accidental act, but rather a repeated and deliberate Zionist policy, and constitutes one aspect of the ongoing crime of genocide against Palestinians for more than 19 months.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor considered the bombing of Fahmi al-Jarjawi School a new episode in a systematic pattern of deliberate attacks on shelters, revealing a clear intent to destroy any form of protection and deprive civilians of the most basic means of safety, as part of a comprehensive aggression that crushes their livelihoods and targets their very existence.

On the same night, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor team documented Israeli enemy warplanes bombing the home of Osama Abd Rabbo in Jabalia al-Nazla, north of Gaza, killing 20 Palestinians, including the homeowner's family, who were erased from the civil registry.

The human rights monitor warned that the Israeli enemy is expanding its killings as part of a widespread escalation, adopting a scorched-earth policy and the wholesale destruction of what remains of the Gaza Strip's neighborhoods and infrastructure. This is part of an ongoing approach for more than 19 months characterized by mass killing, starvation, and the systematic destruction of the necessities of life, with the aim of annihilating Palestinian society in Gaza and obliterating any possibility of its return or reconstruction.

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor called for special protection for shelters and for the opening of safe humanitarian corridors to ensure the delivery of aid and the evacuation of the wounded. It called on the international community to take immediate action to halt the Zionist attacks, impose effective measures to protect Palestinian civilians, and end the political and military impunity that allows the Israeli entity to continue its crimes without accountability.

The Human Rights Observatory also called for the implementation of the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against the enemy's prime minister and his former army minister at the earliest opportunity and for their surrender to international justice, without prejudice to the principle of impunity for international crimes.
