New York - Saba:
Oil prices fell on Tuesday amid market anticipation of the possibility that the OPEC+ alliance would announce a new increase in crude oil production during its upcoming meeting this week.
Brent crude futures fell 12 cents, or 0.19%, to $64.62 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude fell 19 cents, or 0.31%, to $61.34 a barrel.
Reuters quoted three OPEC+ sources as saying that eight member countries, which had pledged additional voluntary oil production cuts, would hold a meeting on May 31, one day earlier than the full alliance had previously been scheduled to meet.
The meeting is likely to determine production volume for July, which sources previously indicated would see an additional increase of approximately 411,000 barrels per day.
The OPEC+ alliance agreed earlier this month to accelerate oil production increases for the second consecutive month in June.
