Bogotá - SABA:
Colombia announced today, Tuesday, the appointment of its first ambassador to the Palestinian territories, nearly a year after severing diplomatic relations with the Israeli entity.
According to the Colombian news agency "ANCOL," the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement that Jorge Iván Ospina was appointed on Monday as Colombia’s first ambassador to Palestine.
The new Colombian ambassador stressed that the world cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of civilians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, emphasizing that people should not die of hunger, must receive immediate medical care, and should be supported through rehabilitation efforts.
In May 2024, leftist President Gustavo Petro announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the Israeli entity, accusing Benjamin Netanyahu’s government of committing "genocide" in the Gaza Strip.
