Gaza - Saba:
World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said that the Israeli enemy army destroyed the residence of the organization’s staff and its main warehouse in Deir al-Balah, and arrested several employees.
Ghebreyesus stated in a press briefing on Tuesday that the staff residence was attacked three times, along with the main warehouse, and that enemy forces entered the residence, forcing women and children to evacuate on foot.
He noted that the enemy army handcuffed male staff members and their family members, stripped them of their clothing, interrogated them, and searched them at gunpoint.
The enemy army arrested two WHO staff members in Deir al-Balah and two other family members. Three of them were later released, while one employee remains in detention.
The World Health Organization called for the immediate release of the detained staff member and for the protection of all its personnel.
Ghebreyesus stressed that the recent evacuation order in Deir al-Balah affected many of the organization’s facilities, harming WHO’s ability to operate in Gaza and pushing the health system further toward collapse.
With the main warehouse out of service and most medical supplies depleted in Gaza, the organization is facing severe constraints in providing adequate support to hospitals, emergency medical teams, and health partners, who are already suffering from critical shortages of medicine, fuel, and equipment.
The WHO Director-General urged member states to take urgent action to ensure the continuous and regular flow of medical supplies into Gaza.
The Israeli enemy army had announced two days ago the expansion of fighting in central Gaza and the launch of a ground operation in Deir al-Balah, accompanied by heavy ground and air bombardment and the advance of enemy vehicles, resulting in mass displacement in the southern areas of the city.
