Occupied Quds - SABA
The Israeli occupation municipality compelled Jerusalem resident Ishaq Hashima to demolish his own home in Beit Hanina in occupied Jerusalem with his own hands.
Muhammad Hashima, the homeowner's son, told Palestinian Safa Agency that his father was forced to self-demolish the house because the deadline set by the Jerusalem municipality had expired. Otherwise, they would have been forced to pay demolition costs of 157,000 shekels (approximately $42,000).
Hashima explained that their lawyer had managed to postpone the demolition several times, with his father paying tens of thousands of shekels in postponement fees each time.
The 135-square-meter home, built 22 years ago with four rooms, a kitchen and bathroom, housed 11 family members across three generations - including Muhammad, his wife, parents, brother Ahmed with his wife and their three children.
