Washington - Saba:
US President Donald Trump announced on Friday his plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15, in a move aimed at exploring opportunities to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump indicated via the Truth Social platform that the upcoming meeting, which will bring him together as US President with the Russian President, will take place next Friday in Alaska.
It is noteworthy that this meeting will be the first between Trump and Putin since the US President returned to the White House last January.
Putin held consultations on Friday with the leaders of China and India ahead of the summit with Trump, who has spent the first months of his term trying to broker peace in Ukraine without achieving a breakthrough so far.
For its part, the Kremlin considered the choice of Alaska to host the summit between Putin and Trump "completely logical."
Three rounds of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have failed to achieve tangible results, and it remains unclear whether the summit will bring peace closer.
