Dar es Salaam – Saba:
The Mauritanian national team boosted its chances of advancing to the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after securing a valuable 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic on Saturday.
The match took place at the “Mkapa” stadium in Dar es Salaam as part of the third round of Group B, which also includes Tanzania, Burkina Faso, and Madagascar.
Ahmed Mokhtar Ahmed scored the only goal in the ninth minute of the first half with a right-footed shot following a cross from the right flank that bypassed the defense and found its way into the net.
With this win, “The Mauritanians” lifted their points tally to four — from one win, one draw, and one loss — moving up to second place in the group behind Tanzania, which leads with six points from two wins.
On the other hand, the Central African Republic suffered its second consecutive defeat after losing 2-4 to Burkina Faso in the opening round and remains at the bottom of the group with zero points.
The eighth edition of the tournament is jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from August 2 to 30, 2025, marking the first-ever tri-nation organization of this continental championship for locally-based players.
