Gaza - Saba:
Palestinian resistance factions affirmed that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's statements about holding general elections express a unique exclusionary mentality, detached from the reality of the Palestinian people and their sacrifices.
These statements seek to impose political realities in isolation from national consensus, at a critical historical moment that requires unity of ranks and prioritizing the national interest over narrow calculations.
The factions said in a statement, received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), on Sunday: "In light of the catastrophic circumstances facing the Palestinian cause, as our people are subjected to the most heinous campaigns of genocide, ethnic cleansing, siege, and displacement in Gaza, Quds, and the West Bank, Palestinian Authority President Abbas issues dangerous statements announcing his readiness to hold general elections in which those who oppose international dictates and conditions will not participate."
They stated that "the top priority for our Palestinian people today is not a formal election, but rather stopping the Zionist aggression, lifting the siege, thwarting the plans for displacement and extermination, and defending our land, our holy sites, and our national rights."
She also emphasized that the PA President's statements represent a dangerous violation of the national consensus reached in the Cairo and Beijing meetings, and all the dialogue stages held under Arab and international sponsorship. They also constitute a setback for the reconciliation process and the rebuilding of the Palestinian national project on the foundations of partnership.
The resistance said imposing preconditions on the electoral process, especially regarding the PLO program and its international obligations, is a perpetuation of an approach of exclusivity, exclusion, and division, and serves only the malicious goals of the Zionist enemy, which seeks to fragment Palestinian society and tear apart its national fabric.
They reiterated her firm rejection of any preconditions imposed on the electoral process and warned against "using the elections as a tool to exclude broad national forces and actors under political pretexts that are unpopular."
