Sana’a – SABA:
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources announced the closure of nine fish shops in various markets across the capital Sana’a for violating public health regulations.
Mohammed Hamid Al-Din, Director of Inspection in the Fisheries Sector, told SABA that a surprise inspection campaign targeted the three largest fish markets in the capital — Al-Baleeli, Al-Jumhouri, and Al-Qa’a. The violations included poor hygiene, improper fish storage, and failure of workers to wear proper uniforms.
Hamid Al-Din confirmed that official violation reports were filed and financial penalties were imposed according to the approved sanctions list. He emphasized that the campaign is part of a broader regulatory plan aimed at improving hygiene standards in the markets and responding to citizen complaints.
Khaled Aoun, Deputy Director of Quality and Technical Affairs, added that random inspections will continue, alongside awareness programs for shop owners and workers to help maintain safe food standards for consumers.
He also warned that repeated violations could lead to temporary suspension or permanent closure of offending shops.
