Lisbon – Saba:
Portuguese club Porto announced on Sunday the appointment of Italian Francesco Farioli as the new manager of the first football team on a two-year contract.
Farioli replaces Martin Anselmi, who left Porto earlier in July following the team's elimination from the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Italian coach, formerly in charge of Ajax Amsterdam and Nice, departed the Dutch club last May after missing the chance to secure a 37th league title due to the team's late-season collapse, allowing PSV Eindhoven to clinch the championship in the final round.
Farioli led Nice to a fifth-place finish in the 2023-2024 French league and previously managed Turkish clubs Fatih Karagümrük and Alanyaspor.
Porto finished third in the Portuguese league last season, nine points behind champions Sporting Lisbon.
