Sana’a - SABA:

The Specialized Criminal Division in the Capital Secretariat began today its first session to review the case of 48 defendants accused of espionage, aiding the enemy, and forming armed gangs for assassinations and bombings in Sana’a, and the governorates of Sana’a, Amran, Dhamar, Hajjah, Al-Hudaydah, Ibb, and Al-Bayda, under the name “Dhamar Cell” (as part of security operations).

During the session, presided over by Judge Abdullah Al-Najjar, the summary report of the case was read out against the defendants. The initial verdict had convicted them, sentencing 44 to death and four others to prison terms ranging from 2 to 15 years, in addition to the confiscation of all seized items, including weapons, explosives, vehicles, communication devices, and computers.

The court granted the defense attorneys an opportunity to submit their appeals by the next session.

According to the indictment, the defendants were responsible for:

  • The assassination of Dr. Raji Ahmed Abdulmalik Hamiduddin.
  • An attempted assassination of Taha Ahmed Al-Mutawakkil by firing two “LAW” rockets at his vehicle, which missed and only caused damage to his car and minor injuries to another person nearby.
  • The attempted assassination of Amin Mohammed Ahmed Jumaan by firing multiple rounds from automatic weapons at his vehicle, causing multiple injuries and property damage.
  • Participation in a criminal conspiracy to assassinate top government, military, and security leaders opposed to the aggression.
  • The killing of Ali Ali Al-Warith, the attempted murder of Colonel Issam Yahya Nasser Al-Ghaili, and the killing of Radman Nasser Ghanem Al-Wusabi.
  • Wounding of civilians and security personnel during IED attacks at checkpoints, military sites, and reinforcements in Dhamar Governorate.
