The BRICS summit kicks off today in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and will continue on July 6-7. President Vladimir Putin will participate remotely, with the Russian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in attendance.

The Kremlin confirmed that President Putin will participate via video conference in the group's plenary session, while Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will head the Russian delegation to the summit.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated that the group's leaders will discuss issues of global peace and security, the global governance system, and ways to enhance cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural spheres. A final statement summarizing the positions of the member states will be issued.
