A meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana'a on Monday, May 19, 2025, to discuss mechanisms for activating the emergency and disaster operations room, attended by the Deputy Minister of International Cooperation, Ambassador Ismail Al-Mutawakel, Deputy Director of OCHA, Rosaria Bruno, and the Head of the Civil Defense Authority, Major General Ibrahim Al-Muayyad.
The meeting discussed enhancing coordination between relevant parties and international organizations to ensure quick response to emergencies, especially in light of the repercussions of American and Israeli aggression and the increasing humanitarian challenges.
Ambassador Al-Mutawakel emphasized the importance of activating the emergency room following the signing of the terms of reference agreement, calling for the preparation of a comprehensive action plan to address disasters resulting from aggression and climate change, praising the efforts of civil defense.
For its part, OCHA confirmed its commitment to enhancing humanitarian coordination and supporting response capabilities, while the head of the Civil Defense Authority called for the development of operational mechanisms and overcoming confusion resulting from weak coordination, pointing to training programs that have contributed to increasing community readiness.
