Washington - Saba:
US President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that Iran does not need a civilian nuclear energy program because it possesses the richest natural resources in the world.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said: "They (Iran) have enough oil for 300 years, but people don't understand. They're one of the richest countries, and they're clean. When you have unlimited oil and gas, why do you need civilian nuclear energy? If you have one of the richest oil reserves, why do you need civilian nuclear energy?"
Trump emphasized that Iran cannot be allowed to possess nuclear weapons and that there is no longer time for negotiations and that an agreement must be reached. He said: "I think they want to make a deal," noting that resolving the nuclear issue "will either be violent or nonviolent, and I prefer nonviolent."
The fourth round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States concluded last Sunday in the Omani capital, Muscat. The negotiations lasted for three hours, according to an official source quoted by American media.
The fourth round began on Sunday immediately after the arrival of the Iranian delegation, headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who met with his Omani counterpart, Badr al-Busaidi, at the negotiations headquarters. Messages were exchanged between the United States and Iran, mediated by the Omani Foreign Minister.
