The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterated on Monday its commitment to diplomacy with the United States, following the postponement of a fourth round of nuclear talks with Washington, initially scheduled for Saturday in Rome, due to "logistical reasons."
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated today, "We have declared our commitment to continuing the path of dialogue and diplomacy and have demonstrated our full readiness by participating in multiple rounds of negotiations."
Baghaei added that Tehran remains flexible regarding the timing of the talks and is awaiting details on the next round of negotiations with the U.S. from Oman, which is mediating between the two sides.
"What matters to us is the behavior and positions of the American negotiating team," he said, noting that U.S. officials have made contradictory statements that "are not helpful" and will not affect Tehran’s resolve to defend its fundamental positions, including its right to domestically enrich uranium.
He pointed out that "many disputed issues could be resolved if the United States is sincere in its claim that its only demand is preventing the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons."
Baghaei also stated that Tehran is prepared to set a new date for nuclear talks with Britain, France, and Germany after a scheduled meeting with the European trio on May 2 in Italy was postponed.
