Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint on Monday.
The visit comes as the two countries exchange accusations over an attack in the disputed Kashmir region, which resulted in multiple casualties.
Upon arriving in the Pakistani capital for a one-day visit, Araghchi told reporters, "We seek de-escalation and urge both sides to exercise restraint to avoid further tension."
India has accused Pakistan of involvement in last month's attack on tourists, a claim Islamabad denies. Pakistan says it has "reliable intelligence" suggesting New Delhi is planning military action, raising fears of a potential conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region in the Himalayas, is claimed in full by both India , Pakistan and has been the cause of multiple wars and diplomatic crises between them.
