China has led the global online retail market for the 12th consecutive year, with online retail sales in the country recording 15.5 trillion yuan (about 2.16 trillion US dollars) in 2024.
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said in a statement today, Saturday: These figures reflect the continued stable growth in the e-commerce sector in China, which has become an essential part of the economy.
Vice Minister of Commerce Sheng Qiuping said that China's wholesale and retail industries have witnessed stable progress thanks to the various policies adopted to provide strong support that contributes to expanding domestic demand and promoting economic growth.
He pointed out that the added value of the wholesale and retail industries reached 13.8 trillion yuan last year, accounting for about 10.2 percent of the country's GDP, reflecting the role of these industries in boosting economic activity, creating jobs, and reducing logistics costs.
Sheng stressed that the Ministry of Commerce of China will continue to work with relevant government departments to strengthen supportive policies for the wholesale and retail industries, and implement precise measures to accelerate the pace of high-quality development of the industries in the future.
