GAZA August 26. 2024 (Saba)— For the 112th consecutive day, the crossings into Gaza, including Rafah and Kerem Abu Salem, remain closed, severely impacting the region's ability to receive humanitarian aid and medical treatment.
Since Israeli forces took control of these crossings following their invasion of Rafah, the blockade has continued despite international pleas for relief.
Humanitarian organizations and global leaders have called for the immediate reopening of these crucial entry points to prevent a worsening humanitarian crisis.
The Gaza government media office today reiterated its call for the crossings to be opened and for aid and goods to be allowed into the Strip.
The office warned that the ongoing blockade is pushing Gaza toward famine, with 3,500 children currently at risk of death due to malnutrition and the lack of essential nutritional supplements and vaccinations.
The World Food Program has raised alarms about food insecurity affecting two million Palestinians in Gaza. The reduction in aid operations is exacerbating the situation, with significant concerns over the ability to address the rising needs of the population.
Tariq Jasarevic, a spokesman for the United Nations, emphasized the urgency of reopening the crossings, stating that over 10,000 individuals require urgent medical evacuation from Gaza. He stressed that reopening the Rafah and other border crossings is essential to ensure the safety and survival of these individuals.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reports that approximately 20,000 people need to travel abroad for medical treatment, but none have been able to leave since the crossings were taken over by Israeli forces. This situation puts many lives at risk, potentially leading to severe complications and deaths.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has also highlighted the severe impact on Gaza's children, pointing to the closure of aid routes and the ongoing military operations as major factors contributing to the dire conditions.
Since the onset of the Nazi military campaign on October 7, 2023, Gaza has faced devastating losses, with a high number of casualties among children and women.
