The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education stated that 16,802 students have been killed and 26,638 injured since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on October 7, 2023.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education stated that the number of students killed in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the aggression has reached more than 16,664, and those injured has reached 25,728. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, 138 students were killed, 910 others were injured, and 760 were arrested.
It indicated that 926 teachers and administrators were killed, 4,452 were injured in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and more than 199 were arrested in the West Bank.
It noted that 352 public schools sustained severe damage as a result of the aggression, including the complete destruction of 111 schools. Another 91 public schools and 89 UNRWA schools were bombed and vandalized. Additionally, 20 higher education institutions sustained severe damage, with 60 university buildings completely destroyed. Furthermore, 152 schools and eight universities in the West Bank were stormed and vandalized, and the walls of several schools in Jenin, Tulkarm, and the towns of Bruqin and Kafr ad-Dik, west of Salfit, were destroyed.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that 788,000 students in the Gaza Strip have remained unable to attend their schools and universities since the start of the aggression. Furthermore, for the second year in a row, high school students in the Strip have been prevented from taking their exams.
The Ministry of Education also launched 12 kindergartens for displaced children in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Qabatiya, at a time when high school exams began in the West Bank, including Quds, and in 37 countries abroad.
The ministry added that the enemy continues to close six UNRWA schools in Quds and its suburbs since May 8.
