SANAA, Feb. 3 (Saba) - Prime Minister Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Habtoor met on Saturday with Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Abdulmalik al-Thawr who briefed him on the Ministry's priority activities related to food security.

Minister al-Thawr gave a brief presentation during the meeting on the most important aspects of the ministry's plan, the most important of which is the interest in the coffee tree in the current stage as an important cash crop that will have a positive impact on the state budget by activating the export of Yemeni high quality coffee to international markets.

He explained that the ministry currently has more than one million seedlings, including five hundred thousand in the province of Ibb alone.

He pointed to the good reputation of which enjoys the Yemeni coffee, which was strengthened through the participation outside the country, which contributed to the presentation of models from the five Yemeni coffee varieties in a number of international conferences concerned.

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation pointed out that under the plan of the National Salvation Government for the current year, a coffee research center will be established which will take care of the aspects related to the development and development of this tree in partnership with the private sector, as well as the good marketing of coffee externally through specialized companies in the marketing process with government backing.

The presentation dealt with the reality of Yemeni honey, its delicious taste and therapeutic properties, stressing the importance of supporting beekeepers through its regular marketing process regionally and internationally as well as the role of the ministry in providing services to farmers and the necessary guidance for them towards the joints of the agricultural process including the safe use of agricultural pesticides.

The meeting discussed the status of the Fund for the promotion of agricultural and fish production, the mechanism to develop its role and resume its vital activities in the implementation of projects related to the development of the agricultural and fisheries sectors and support small farmers and fishermen and alleviate the negative effects of the aggression and siege.

The meeting reviewed the efforts of the Grain Propagation Foundation and its development plan for the current year, which is due to be presented to the Council of Ministers.



They also reviewed the catastrophic situation of the Tihama Development Authority, most of whose facilities were attacked repeatedly by the US-backed saudi-led aggression coalition and the interventions required to activate its organizational and administrative performance to serve the agricultural and livestock sector in the Tihama Plain and strengthen its vital role in the service of food security.

The Prime Minister urged the Minister to continue to strengthen those efforts to promote agriculture in the country through this important ministry.

He affirmed also the importance to work diligently to face of the economic impact of the aggression and siege on the daily lives of citizens.

Dr. Bin Habtoor stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among the ministry and the Ministries of Information, Endowments, Guidance and the local authority to raise awareness of the importance of expanding coffee cultivation and the size of its large revenues for farmers and the national economy.
