Lisbon – Saba:
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has dismissed the possibility that the national power grid was targeted by a cyberattack that caused its outage.
In press statements broadcast by the local channel "RTP" on Tuesday, Montenegro said: "There is no indication that any activity in cyberspace caused a malfunction in the power grid leading to the blackout."
The Portuguese prime minister expressed his gratitude to the emergency services in Portugal for their swift response in restoring the national electricity system.
Montenegro concluded his remarks by stating: "The country has honorably responded to an unexpected challenge that no one anticipated."
On Monday, Portugal and Spain experienced a massive power grid failure, leaving millions without electricity.
