UN envoy concerns over escalation of violence in Amran

NEW YORK, July 08 (Saba) – UN envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar expressed Tuesday his deep concern over the violence in Amran and other northern areas, and regretted over the deaths and injuries following the escalation of violence in the past few days in the province.

Benomar called on all parties, the Houthis and other armed militants from one hand and the military units from the other, to immediately end violence and hostility acts in Amran city, where the Houthis are trying to get control over some of its sites, stressing the importance to respect the deal to cease fire by all parties.

Even though the UN envoy affirmed his support to efforts of President Abdo Rabu Mansour Hadi, he stressed the need for all parties to end the tensions through a political process and resort to negotiations based on the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) to peacefully resolve differences.

He also called all parties to obligate to the human rights law and international humanitarian law and to facilitate humanitarian organizations' access to the conflict-affected areas in order to help wounded people and deliver assistance to all citizens there.
