Minsk – Saba:
The Belarusian Ministry of Forestry announced on Monday that authorities in Minsk have permitted bear hunting for the first time since 1990 due to a sharp increase in their population.
In a statement on Telegram, the ministry said: "Starting tomorrow, bear hunting will be allowed in Belarus. This is the first time in modern Belarusian history, and the decision is linked to the significant rise in bear numbers, aiming to prevent attacks on humans."
The measure will be in effect from July 1 to December 31.
Hunters are permitted to shoot bears of all ages using rifles, and hunting via ambush is also allowed. Only hunters with at least three years of experience are authorized to participate in bear hunting.
