Moscow - Saba:
Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President's Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and Chairman of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, announced his support for an investigation involving a group of experts to examine allegations related to the alleged "Russian interference" in the 2016 US presidential election.
Sputnik quoted Dmitriev as saying on his X account, commenting on the news published by American reports: "This is important. The accusations are beginning to pursue the liars who were behind the lies about Russia, who tried to attack both Russia and Trump." On Monday, the US Attorney General signed an order to submit evidence to the court regarding the alleged "Russian interference conspiracy" in the 2016 US election, which Trump won.
Earlier on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump again accused his Democratic predecessor, Barack Obama, of fabricating accusations of alleged "Russian interference" in the 2016 US election, suggesting that Obama, Joe Biden, and his former election rival Hillary Clinton also had a hand in it.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: "Obama himself created this 'Russia, Russia, Russia' fantasy. Crooked Hillary, Sleepy Joe, and many others participated. Crime of the century. Incontrovertible evidence. A grave threat to our country!.
In May 2023, US Special Counsel John Durham issued a report concluding that "US law enforcement and intelligence agencies had no credible evidence of alleged collusion between Trump and Russia in the 2016 election." As noted, the FBI had no information indicating that any of Trump's close associates had contact with Russian intelligence services.
An unconfirmed report on alleged "Russian interference" in the 2016 US presidential election was removed from the website of the US Senate Intelligence Committee. According to Newsweek, American internet users drew attention to the report's removal from the website, and the label "Non-Existent" now appears on website pages linked to the report.
Russia has repeatedly denied US accusations of interference, including in the US presidential election. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described them as "completely unfounded." Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking about allegations of Russian interference in various countries' elections, stated that there were no facts to support them.
