Washington - Saba:
US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot, held a telephone conversation during which they discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the need to end the conflict in Ukraine.
In a statement on Monday, Tammy Bruce said: "US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot today. They discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, efforts to reach a ceasefire, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine."
The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was supposed to continue once the first phase, which expired on March 1, was extended or the second phase entered its second phase, but Israeli intransigence regarding the next steps has prevented this. For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that the Gaza Strip was witnessing a "humanitarian catastrophe," while the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the need to end the war in Gaza and establish an independent Palestinian state.
