Gaza - Saba:
Ismail Al-Thawabtah, Director General of the Government Media Office, confirmed that the Gaza Strip is suffering from a worsening environmental and health disaster due to the lack of clean water. Contaminated water has caused the spread of numerous diseases, such as acute diarrhea and gastroenteritis, especially among children.
Al-Thawabtah told the Palestinian SAFA News Agency that the collapse of the sewage infrastructure, the accumulation of waste, and the spread of mosquitoes and insects have led to the emergence of serious skin diseases.
He added that this disaster is the result of the lack of fuel and the breakdown of municipal equipment due to the ongoing Israeli blockade, and more significantly, as a result of the genocide that has affected the water sector and almost completely destroyed the environmental sector.
Al-Thawabtah warned of the imminent collapse of the environmental and health sectors, demanding the provision of fuel and urgent supplies to municipalities.
He also called on international bodies to assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities before a comprehensive health crisis erupts that threatens the lives of millions of civilians in Gaza. He pointed out that (722) central water wells were destroyed and put out of service by the Israeli enemy, in addition to (113) fresh water projects targeted by the enemy, which committed massacres against them.
He noted that (3,780 kilometers) of electricity networks were destroyed by the enemy, in addition to the destruction of (2,105) overhead and underground electricity distribution transformers.
He explained that the enemy destroyed (+500,000 linear meters) of water networks, (+655,000) linear meters of sewage networks, and (+3 million) linear meters of road and street networks.
Thawabtah stated that (+1.88 billion) kilowatt-hours is the amount of electricity the Gaza Strip has been deprived of throughout the war.
The Zionist enemy forces, with American support, are committing the crime of genocide against the residents of the Gaza Strip through killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, in blatant defiance of all international appeals and International Court of Justice resolutions demanding an end to the war.
