Canberra - Saba:
The Australian government has announced its commitment to provide additional funding to support humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip, amounting to 20 million Australian dollars (approximately 13 million US dollars).
The Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that it has prepared a new financial support package to address the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, which is subjected to a stifling Israeli blockade.
It added that approximately 13 million US dollars in support will be provided to organizations capable of quickly delivering food, medical equipment, and other life-saving humanitarian supplies to Palestinians in Gaza. She explained that the support package includes the United Nations World Food Program, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
She also stated that some of this aid will be provided in cooperation with the United Kingdom and Jordan.
The Australian Foreign Ministry called for an end to the oppression and starvation suffered by civilians in Gaza.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli entity—with American support—has been waging a war of genocide in Gaza, including killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement, ignoring all international appeals and orders from the International Court of Justice to halt it.
The genocide has left more than 210,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 9,000 missing. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and famine has claimed the lives of many, including dozens of children.
