Tunisian swimmer Ahmed El-Jewadi won the gold medal in the 1500-meter freestyle race held Sunday at the World Swimming Championship in Singapore.
El-Jewadi completed the race in 14:34.41 minutes after a strong competition with German Sven Schwarz, who took silver, followed by American Bobby Finke, the world record holder in this event, in third place.
El-Jewadi had also recently won gold in the 800-meter freestyle at the same championship.
In other events Sunday, French swimmer Leon Marchand won gold in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:04.73 minutes, ahead of Japan’s Tomoyuki Matsushita and Russia’s Ilya Borodin.
Russian swimmer Kliment Kolesnikov took gold in the 50-meter race with a time of 23.55 seconds, followed by compatriot Pavel Samsonov and South African Peter Kotsche in second and third places.
