Kenyan runner Beatrice Chebet set a new world record in the 5,000m, clocking a time of 13 minutes and 58.06 seconds on Saturday evening at the Prefontaine Diamond League athletics meet in Eugene, Oregon.

The two-time Olympic champion broke the previous record of 14 minutes and 00.21 seconds, set by Ethiopia's Godaf Tsegaye in September 2023 at the same venue.
