Ottawa - Saba:
The Canadian newspaper Toronto Star revealed Tuesday morning that Canadian police have opened an investigation into Israeli soldiers with dual citizenship on charges of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
According to the newspaper's report, the investigation began approximately a year and a half ago, in early 2024, and is being conducted in complete secrecy away from the media.
Following the report's release, Canadian police confirmed that they are investigating war crimes related to what they called "the armed conflict between Israel and Hamas," but declined to disclose details of the scope or objectives of the investigation, according to Ma'an News Agency.
This secret investigation is relatively unusual and contrasts with the highly publicized approach taken by the Canadian police in all matters related to war crimes investigations in Ukraine. In the case of Ukraine, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police established a dedicated "hotline" for inquiries, a dedicated website, conducted high-profile interviews, and released recordings, along with extensive advertisements calling for complaints and Canadian citizenship certificates for those suspected of committing crimes against humanity in Gaza.
With American and European support, the Israeli enemy army has been committing genocidal crimes in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 54,470 Palestinian civilians, the majority of whom were children and women, and the injury of 124,693 others, as of yesterday. This is a preliminary toll, with thousands of victims still buried under the rubble and on the streets, unable to be reached by ambulance and rescue crews.
