Sana'a – Saba:
Sana'a Water Basin Mini-Committee, chaired by Capital Sana'a Mayor Dr. Hamoud Ubad, convened on Saturday to discuss requests for drilling and deepening wells within the basin, including new, postponed, and reconsideration cases.
The committee reviewed 58 new well drilling requests, ten postponed requests, and 20 requests for reconsideration.
The meeting, attended by officials from the Water Resources and Facilities Authority, the Sana'a governorate, and the Capital Sana'a, approved some applications and rejected others based on committee members' input regarding technical and legal conditions. Some applications were postponed due to unmet requirements.
Mayor Dr. Ubad emphasized the committee's commitment to accuracy in processing these applications to preserve the Sana'a Basin's water resources and prevent depletion.
He stressed the need for strict enforcement against drilling violations, tighter oversight of drilling rig owners to prevent unlicensed drilling, and the definition of the Sana'a Basin's geographical boundaries.
Dr. Ubad stated that violating regulations against random drilling is a serious issue, noting the prohibition of drilling or deepening new wells, including dug and hand-dug wells.
Engineer Mustafa al-Shahari, Director of the Sana'a Water Resources Authority branch, presented the submitted files, detailing their locations, justifications, legality, and technical comments.
