New York - Saba:
The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, confirmed that the volume of aid sent to Gaza does not match the scale of the humanitarian tragedy in the Strip.
Lazzarini explained in a press statement on Saturday that "the famine in Gaza can be stopped if there is political will, and what we are asking for is not impossible." He called for enabling the United Nations to fulfill its role in providing aid to the needy population and protecting their dignity.
On Friday, he announced that 900 aid trucks had entered Gaza over the past two weeks, representing only 10% of the daily needs of the Strip's population. He added that stopping the current famine in Gaza requires political will.
