Hodeida - Saba:
A meeting held on Monday in Hodeida province, attended by Ambassador Ismail Al-Mutawakel, Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation, Major General Ibrahim Al-Muayyad, Head of Civil Defense Authority, and Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mission in Yemen, discussed emergency interventions to address the repercussions of aggression and flood damages in recent periods.
The meeting reviewed the urgent needs of the Civil Defense amid escalating challenges due to the direct targeting of infrastructure and recurring natural disasters.
Major General Al-Muayyad affirmed that the Civil Defense Authority suffers from a lack of resources, affecting its performance. He stressed the importance of enhancing early warning capabilities and providing necessary equipment to rehabilitate infrastructure, particularly in flood- and landslide-prone areas.
He noted that the recently established joint emergency room has proven effective in crisis management, activating community roles and improving coordination among relevant authorities. However, it still requires technical and logistical support to expand its interventions and cover affected areas.
For his part, the Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships with international organizations to support civil defense capabilities. He confirmed that the Foreign Ministry, through its International Cooperation sector, is working to translate previous meeting outcomes into practical interventions in collaboration with humanitarian partners, primarily the ICRC.
Meanwhile, Head of ICRC expressed the ICRC’s understanding of the scale of challenges, affirming the mission’s commitment to exploring possible intervention mechanisms. This includes contributing to early warning projects and providing necessary equipment and training to enhance civil defense capacities in disaster response.
