The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that its air defense systems shot down 96 Ukrainian drones overnight, and a total of 148 Ukrainian drones in the past 24 hours.
Sputnik quoted the ministry as saying in a statement: "From 20:00 Moscow time on May 25, operational air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 96 Ukrainian drones, including 31 over the Bryansk region, 16 over the Belgorod region, 11 over the Kursk region, 9 over the Tula region, and 8 over the Oryol region."
In addition, there were six drones over the Moscow region, five over the Kaluga region, four over the Ivanovo region, two over the Ryazan region, two over the Vladimir region, and one drone each over the Yaroslavl region and the Republic of Tatarstan.
The statement added: "In total, during the airstrikes that extended from 10:00 Moscow time on May 25 to 8:00 Moscow time on May 26, 148 Ukrainian drones were shot down over several Russian provinces."
The Ukrainian Armed Forces target the Russian border regions of Crimea and the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh regions almost daily with drones and missiles.
Russian forces, for their part, continue their special military operation, aiming to demilitarize Ukraine, eliminate threats to Russia's security from Ukraine, and protect civilians in the Donbas region.
