Muscat – Saba:
The Sultanate of Oman continues to implement one of its largest modern urban projects—the construction of Sultan Haitham City on the outskirts of the capital, Muscat.
The city is designed to be an integrated model of a smart and sustainable urban center, reflecting Oman’s vision for urban expansion based on innovation and quality of life.
The project spans an estimated area of 15 million square meters and is being executed in multiple phases, the first of which began two years ago, covering more than half of the total area.
This foundational phase focuses on developing infrastructure and key services, including residential and educational zones, as well as public facilities, with significant progress already achieved, according to data from Oman’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.
In this context, Engineer Laila Al-Nassri, Director of Developer Follow-up for the city, stated in an interview with Anadolu Agency: "Construction work in the city has progressed rapidly since the project’s launch, thanks to the involvement of six developers working on the ground."
Al-Nassri explained that development is not limited to a single entity but is distributed among local developers, with two foreign companies expected to join in the upcoming phases.
Official estimates indicate that the project aims to establish around 20,000 residential units, accommodating approximately 100,000 residents, within an integrated environment combining housing, services, and public facilities.
The total investment in the project so far has reached about $1.7 billion.
Notably, the project is progressing ahead of schedule, with the first phase exceeding its initial scope to cover more than 50% of the city’s area, attributed to developer collaboration and support from relevant government entities, as Al-Nassri clarified.
The timeline anticipates the completion of the first phase by 2030, with the entire project set to be finalized by 2045, though the schedule could be accelerated if the current pace of work continues.
