Prominent British journalist David Hearst, managing editor of the Middle East Eye website, has said that Israel is on its way to losing the war in Gaza, considering that what is happening brings to mind the failure of the American military campaign in Vietnam, but on a more pronounced and broader scale.
In an article published on the website, Hearst asserted that the current Israeli campaign, which aims to "wipe Hamas off the map," faces a strategic deadlock similar to what the United States faced during the Vietnam War.
He added, "The same lesson is being repeated today, but on a larger scale. Israel will inevitably lose."
Hearst explained that two decisive factors contributed to the end of the Vietnam War: the Vietnamese determination to fight and the profound shift in American public opinion against the war. He pointed out that these same two forces are what will lead the Palestinians toward achieving their state.
Hearst said, "The Palestinians' determination to remain and cling to their land until death, and the ongoing shift in Western public opinion, especially in the United States, against Israel's policies, represent two crucial paths to a different future."
He pointed out that public opinion in the West is no longer what it was, and that the shift is evident on the right and has become more entrenched on the left. He added, "It no longer helps to label legitimate criticism of what is happening in Gaza as anti-Semitism." It's too late for this pretext."
Hearst called for careful monitoring of this shift, believing that time is no longer on Israel's side, given the continued bombing of civilians and the targeting of infrastructure, creating growing global outrage that is difficult to contain.
