Rabat - Saba:
Moroccan club Renaissance Berkane defeated Tanzanian club Simba SC 2-0 on Saturday evening in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final.
RS Berkane took the lead in the eighth minute through Mamadou Camara, who headed a cross from teammate Hamza Al-Moussawi into the Tanzanian net.
In the 14th minute, Oussama Melioui scored RS Berkane's second goal, receiving a pass inside the penalty area from teammate Imad Riahi, dribbling past the defender, and slotting the ball into the net.
RS Berkane scored a third goal in the 64th minute, but the referee disallowed it after consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
The Moroccan team now holds the trophy, having lost to Zamalek in last year's final, but has previously won the title twice, in 2020 and 2022.
The return leg will be held in Tanzania next Sunday, and a draw or a one-goal loss will be enough for RS Berkane to win the title for the third time in their history, adding continental success to their domestic success after winning the Moroccan League title this season for the first time in their history.
