Tulkarm – Saba:
Families of Palestinian prisoners and ex-prisoners protested in the center of Tulkarm on Wednesday, condemning the Palestinian Authority's policy of cutting financial allowances for freed detainees and their families. The demonstrators demanded justice and the restoration of their overdue payments.
Protesters raised banners denouncing what they described as "collective punishment" against prisoners, stressing that cutting their salaries betrays those who sacrificed their freedom for the Palestinian cause, according to the Palestinian news agency Safa.
They emphasized that this policy only serves the interests of the Israeli occupation, urging the Palestinian Authority to rectify its approach and end the suffering of hundreds of ex-prisoners facing dire conditions after their salaries were suspended.
Participating families warned that continued neglect of this issue would force them to escalate their protests, calling for a comprehensive national and popular movement to reject these unjust measures.
The Palestinian Authority recently suspended salaries for a number of current and former prisoners—including women—sparking widespread outrage among human rights groups and the public.
This decision comes amid severe economic hardships faced by many ex-prisoners and the families of Palestinian detainees.
