The Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed on Wednesday that the percentage of contaminated water samples in the Strip has exceeded 25%.
In a statement, the ministry said, "Water pollution has led to the spread of numerous diseases among citizens," noting that "90% of families face water insecurity."
It added, "The onset of summer and rising temperatures increase the demand for water, especially drinking water."
The ministry continued, "Displaced populations in shelters are suffering from catastrophic conditions due to the lack of water sources."
It explained that "septic tanks for wastewater disposal are further endangering the groundwater aquifer."
The ministry stated, "90% of desalination plants are completely out of service," noting that "80% of wastewater treatment plants are non-operational, increasing seawater pollution."
