Washington - Saba:
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he believes Secretary of State Marco Rubio could continue to serve as both National Security Advisor and Secretary of State.
When asked in an interview with NBC News whether Rubio could combine the two positions indefinitely, Trump replied, "Absolutely, he could."
Theoretically, the president added, there is no need for two people in those positions.
Trump said, "Henry Kissinger did both."
On Thursday, Trump announced the dismissal of Waltz, a key figure in the Signal app leak scandal.
Later, the US president added that he would nominate Waltz to serve as the next US ambassador to the United Nations.
Trump said that Rubio would temporarily assume the role of national security advisor, who would retain his position at the State Department.
