Prague - Saba:
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala revealed during a press conference on Monday that his country has sent approximately 500,000 heavy artillery shells to Ukraine during the first months of 2025.
The Prime Minister explained: "As of today (Monday, May 5), approximately half a million heavy artillery shells have been sent to Ukraine this year as part of the ammunition initiative."
He added: "I believe that the plans set for this year within the framework of this initiative will be implemented."
The Czech Republic is leading talks to extend heavy ammunition deliveries to Ukraine until 2026, according to Czech President Petr Pavel, following his meeting with Vladimir Zelensky in Prague. Czech President Petr Pavel announced at a press conference on Sunday after talks with Zelensky that "in 2025, within the framework of the ammunition initiative, it is planned to deliver approximately 1.8 million large-caliber artillery shells to Ukraine."
Russia has made it clear that arms supplies to Ukraine hinder a settlement and directly implicate NATO countries in the conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia.
Moscow has also previously confirmed that Western weapons sent to Ukraine end up on the "black market."
