Palestinian prisoners' organizations stated that the Zionist enemy has increasingly targeted Palestinian workers, with arrests and persecution being the most prominent policies pursued against them.
This is in addition to the fact that a large portion of the Palestinian prisoners who fought for the freedom of their land and people are from the working class.
The Palestinian Prisoners' Authority, the Prisoners' Club, and the Addameer Association added in a joint statement today, Thursday, on the occasion of International Workers' Day, which falls on May 1 of each year, that the Zionist enemy has worked for decades to develop its tools and policies to target them, deprive them of their rights, and impose increased control and oversight over their right to work and life.
They emphasized that the Zionist enemy has escalated its targeting and persecution of workers through arrests since the beginning of the ongoing genocide, noting that the issue of Palestinian workers has become one of the most prominent issues, given the escalation of crimes and systematic violations against them.
It indicated that workers are subjected to arrest, persecution, and torture. Thousands of them have been subjected to mass arrests and systematic crimes, as part of the policy of collective revenge, which the Zionist enemy has escalated in an unprecedented manner, compared to previous periods when Palestine witnessed widespread popular uprisings and uprisings against the Zionist occupation regime.
Prisoner organizations highlighted the suffering of Gaza workers, thousands of whom were arrested after October 7, 2023, while they were in the territories occupied in 1948 for work. They explained that they were detained in harsh and oppressive conditions and subjected to systematic torture before the majority were later released. Several martyrs have also been killed, while the Zionist enemy continues to enforce the crime of enforced disappearance against others and refuses to disclose their fate.
They noted that the Zionist enemy has escalated its persecution and arrest of workers for entering the territories occupied in 1948 without a permit, as well as in occupied Quds.
The arrests of the workers were accompanied by various forms of assault and detention under harsh and difficult conditions, according to the statement.
The prisoners' organizations renewed their demand to all international human rights organizations at all levels to open an independent international investigation in light of the continued escalation of crimes and the war of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
They also renewed their demand to work to put an end to the escalating and unprecedented crimes against prisoners in the prisons of the Zionist enemy, and to restore their true and necessary role in the face of the brutality of the occupation regime, supported by international powers that ignore the entire human and humanitarian community and all the voices of free people around the world.
