The Director General of Ports Affairs at the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization announced that "in the recent incident at Shahid Rajaee Port, no damage was caused to the port's main equipment."
Tasnim International News Agency reported that Adel Daris, in a press statement in Bandar Abbas on Thursday afternoon, said: "There are more than 2,000 operational departments at Shahid Rajaee Port, and the recent incident (the large explosion that led to a massive fire) occurred 15 hectares from the port's waters, and the impact was less than 1 percent."
He confirmed that no damage was caused to the main equipment at Shahid Rajaee Port, including the gantry cranes, in the recent incident.
Dris explained that "the total capacity of the country's commercial ports currently approaches 300 million tons, and there are 11 major ports active in trade."
The Director General of Ports Affairs at the Ports and Maritime Organization indicated that efforts are underway to increase capacity in two areas: first, expanding equipment capacity and second, improving productivity. Last year, container equipment saw a 13% growth, with a throughput exceeding three million TEUs.
Strategic and basic equipment is provided by the public sector, but most of the infrastructure and equipment on site were developed with private sector participation.
