Tehran – Saba:

Director General of the Crisis Management Department in Hormozgan Province announced on Saturday that the death toll from the explosion at Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas has risen to five and 700 injured, with the number likely to continue rising as rescue teams continue to work at the site.

The Iranian Red Crescent said it had sent five helicopters to Bandar Abbas to help extinguish the fire at Rajaee Port. It indicated that 20 rescue and ambulance teams were at the site of the explosion to provide assistance to the injured.

According to the Iranian Tasnim News Agency, all the injured were transferred to hospitals in Bandar Abbas, and the relevant authorities confirmed that there were no problems treating the wounded, and that all hospitals were on high alert.

In a related development, blood units were sent to Bandar Abbas from the provinces of Gilan, Tehran, Yazd, Hamadan, Kerman, North Khorasan, and Isfahan to meet the needs of the injured.

The Director General of the Crisis Management Department in Hormozgan Province indicated that all government agencies and institutions responded immediately after the explosion, stressing that the situation is currently under control. Although the number of injured is still increasing, a large number of them have been discharged from hospitals after receiving the necessary clinical treatment.

Tasnim quoted its correspondent as saying that the force of the blast wave was so intense that it completely destroyed an administrative building near the explosion site and crushed numerous cars in the area.
