President Donald Trump is facing a lawsuit over his approval of an executive order that would facilitate the dismissal of high-level civil service employees, Bloomberg said on Tuesday.

The National Union of Treasury staff, who represent US government employees across 37 agencies and departments, claimed in a lawsuit filed in federal court in Washington on Monday that Trump's move contradicts the intent of lawmakers, since Congress established "due process rights" for federal government employees, the American agency added.

The lawsuit states that "the executive order would radically reshape the civil service by increasing the number and type of employees who belong to a new category of exempt service who are at risk of dismissal without adverse action rights."

Bloomberg expects a wave of lawsuits in response to a wide range of executive orders issued by Trump, as this "legal challenge," as it describes it, is the latest.

A lawsuit has also been filed over Trump’s effort to end automatic citizenship for children born in the United States whose parents reside illegally or temporarily in the country.

The agency stated that what is happening today, with Trump’s executive orders, is similar to the period before his loss in the 2020 presidential election, when he eliminated some of the protections enjoyed by civil servants by creating a new classification for federal workers known as “Schedule F.”

It was then repealed by former President Joe Biden on his third day in office, before it went into effect.
