The International Tennis Federation announced today, Monday, the selection of the Italian Jannik Sinner and the Polish Iga Swiatek as the world champions for 2024, in appreciation of their performance and results in the four Grand Slam tournaments and other high-profile tournaments last season.
The International Federation chooses the winner of the title based on the results of the season, especially the four Grand Slam tournaments, the Davis Cup, the Billie Jean King Cup, in addition to the Olympic Games.
Sinner (ranked first in the world) succeeded in winning his first title in the four Grand Slam tournaments in Australia before winning the US Open title last year. He also won the season-ending tournament and led Italy to win the Davis Cup in the Spanish city of Malaga, for the second time in a row.
Swiatek, who won the award for the second year in a row, won the French Open for the fourth time, in addition to four titles in the 1000-point tournaments organized by the Women's Tennis Association, in addition to the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
